When the Schoharie plank road was constructed in the 1840s, it was adapted to serve as a tavern. Later it became the home of Stephen V. Frederick, a teacher and businessman who served as Town Supervisor from 1861 to 1866 and as Albany County Treasurer from 1867 to 1870. The wood-frame building has a gable roof with chimneys at the gable ends, a rear ell, and a classically recessed doorway with pilasters, transom and side lights. Inside, the original newel post and stairway, fireplace mantels and kitchen fireplace survive. Set well back from the road, it keeps its original setting beside a small commercial complex. It is considered locally significant as one of the earliest surviving buildings in Guilderland and a simple vernacular example of a Colonial farmhouse. The Town now owns it and uses it for historic exhibits.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Colonial Style (simple vernacular Colonial farmhouse)","criteria":[],"status_note":"Owned by the Town of Guilderland and used as a town historic center with historic exhibits; condition rated fair, with no known threats.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:50:43.186363-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/82001075.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/82001075/f616c651d3-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/82001075/f616c651d3-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"Kenneth C.
