The eastern and center portion dates to 1734, with a western addition around 1750.","why_significant":"The nomination calls it an exceptional Dutch Colonial house and one of the finest and earliest Colonial buildings in the Town. It was built by or for Robert Freeman in the 1730s, and Barent Mynderse later enlarged it. Its original integrity has been maintained, and the changes made in different periods remain visible in the detailing.","narrative":"Located close to the road in the hamlet of Guilderland Center, this two-story Dutch Colonial house began in 1734 as a two-room dwelling with a loft, built by or for Robert Freeman. Around 1750 Barent Mynderse added a room to the west and raised the roof to create a full second story. A rear ell followed around 1800. The gable-roofed house is five bays wide, with concealed chimneys at the gable ends, a center entrance with an original handcrafted paneled Dutch door, and 12/12 windows on the first floor. Inside, much of the original hardware, woodwork and doors survive, along with large smooth-finished beams typical of Dutch construction. The western fireplace keeps its original paneling, fireback and sheet iron protector. Its significance rests on being one of the finest and earliest Colonial buildings in the Town, with its original integrity maintained and its development visible in the detailing of different periods. It remains a private residence, in good condition.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"Architect and builder unknown; built by or for Robert Freeman in the 1730s; western addition attributed to Barent Mynderse","architectural_style":"Dutch Colonial","criteria":[],"status_note":"Used as a residence, as originally; condition given as good; interior accessible by appointment.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:50:42.343534-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/82001062.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/82001062/b206afbdd5-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/82001062/b206afbdd5-1600.webp","licence":"Public domain","author":null,"credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Historic_American_Buildings_Survey,_Nelson_E._Baldwin,_Photographer,_Jan._16,_1937,_View-Southwest_Elevation-Freeman_House,_Guilderland_Center,_Albany_Co.,_N_Y._-_Freeman_House,_HABS_NY,1-GUILC,1-1.tif\" rel=\"noopener\">Unknown author</a>, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Historic_American_Buildings_Survey,_Nelson_E._Baldwin,_Photographer,_Jan._16,_1937,_View-Southwest_Elevation-Freeman_House,_Guilderland_Center,_Albany_Co.,_N_Y._-_Freeman_House,_HABS_NY,1-GUILC,1-1.tif"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75311965","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freeman_House_(Guilderland,_New_York)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5501017"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/albany-county/freeman-house-82001062/"}
