It is part of the Guilderland Multiple Resource Area and includes the 1897 railroad station, which was already listed in 1971.","narrative":"Main Street in Altamont, a village in the town of Guilderland, Albany County, New York, is lined with a district of about 36 buildings on roughly eleven acres. It runs from Thacher Drive to the railroad station. Most buildings are two- or three-story wood-frame houses, some with storefronts, built between about 1860 and 1926. Styles include Greek Revival, Italianate, Queen Anne, Colonial Revival and Bungalow, along with simpler gable-roofed and L-plan houses. Typical details are clapboard or scalloped-shingle siding, bracketed cornices and one-story front porches. Several buildings have been altered with aluminum or asbestos siding, new windows or removed porches. One house at 172 Main Street began as a barn and was converted to a dwelling in 1937. The district also includes a village park with a bandstand and the 1897 railroad station, which was listed separately in 1971 and now serves as offices. The district was entered in the register in November 1982 as part of the Guilderland Multiple Resource Area.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Mixed late 19th and early 20th century styles including Greek Revival, Italianate, Queen Anne, Colonial Revival and Bungalow","criteria":[],"status_note":"The railroad station has been adapted for use as offices; many houses have lost original porches or been altered with new siding or windows.","vacant_flag":null,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:50:42.921339-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/82001054.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/82001054/2866216cdc-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/82001054/2866216cdc-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"TrudiJ","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Altamont_Historic_District,_Altamont.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">TrudiJ</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Altamont_Historic_District,_Altamont.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75312002","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Altamont_Historic_District","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q4736131"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/albany-county/altamont-historic-district-82001054/"}
