Sadler.","why_significant":"The house is presented as a fine example of Colonial Revival architecture and one of the most prominent residences in South Attleboro. It is also considered a monument to the prosperity of the South Attleboro jewelry industry at the turn of the century. The form states it retains integrity of design, materials, workmanship, setting and location.","narrative":"Built in 1906 at 574 Newport Avenue in South Attleboro, this Colonial Revival house was designed and built by Samuel Fuller of Pawtucket, Rhode Island, for Herbert A. Sadler, senior partner of Sadler Brothers, a leading local jewelry manufacturer. The two-and-a-half story frame house has a hip roof, a colossal portico with paired Ionic columns and an elliptical pediment, and a two-tiered piazza. Inside, a central hall holds a three-quarter turn stairway, a double parlor divided by Corinthian columns, and a dining room with a dumb waiter. Standing across the street from the family factory, the house served as a place to receive and entertain the firm's clients and reflected the success of the local jewelry trade. Sadler lived there until 1931, and his family stayed until 1953, when it became a nursing home. Later alterations for rest home use, including aluminum siding and added partitions, have not removed the original historic fabric.","period_of_significance":"1900- (specific date 1906)","architect_builder":"Samuel Fuller","architectural_style":"Colonial Revival","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Occupied and maintained as a private rest home; altered for that use, with a former garage converted to a separate residence.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:11:56.092553-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/24/7945/63794524/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/82000489.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/82000489/c9b4722aab-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/82000489/c9b4722aab-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"User:Magicpiano","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:AttleboroMA_HerbertASadlerHouse.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">User:Magicpiano</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:AttleboroMA_HerbertASadlerHouse.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63794524","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herbert_A._Sadler_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5733424"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/bristol-county/sadler-herbert-a-house-82000489/"}
