Though smaller than the Gamble House, it shows the Greenes' style in its most characteristic period and documents a less ambitious commission. It also anchors an intact row of early twentieth century residences near Orange Grove Boulevard.","narrative":"Built in 1906 at 370 West Del Mar Boulevard in Pasadena, this two-story shingled house was designed by Charles and Henry Greene for Dr. W. T. and Alice Bolton, the second house the architects designed for the couple. Contractor Peter Hall supervised construction, which cost about $11,000. The long gabled form has exposed rafters, brick foundations and terraces, and a heavy cedar and teak front door. Inside, cedar wainscoting, continuous head moldings, pegged stair joints and Grueby tile around a fireplace reflect the Greenes' attention to wood and joinery. Later changes include a curved stair bay added in 1929 by Garrett Van Pelt, enclosed porches and a 1935 elevator. A 1914 garage and part of the original fence and gate survive. The house is valued as a mid-range example of the Greenes' work and for the quality of its craftsmanship, and it sits within a street of preserved early twentieth century homes. Restoration was under way at the time of listing.","period_of_significance":"1900-","architect_builder":"Charles and Henry Greene; Peter Hall","architectural_style":"Craftsman","criteria":[],"status_note":"Described as altered but currently being restored to excellent condition; the private residence was purchased by a private owner in 1979 after use for storage.","vacant_flag":null,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:55:32.237297-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_CA/80004491.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/80004491/84265a0210-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/80004491/84265a0210-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Ellie Trevarthen","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:WTBoltonHouse.JPG\" rel=\"noopener\">Ellie Trevarthen</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:WTBoltonHouse.JPG"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/123858969","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dr._W._T._Bolton_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q15215007"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/california/los-angeles-county/bolton-dr-w-t-house-80004491/"}
