Originally named Amalthea, the village was platted in 1849 by Timothy Lee, a major benefactor of the college and the church. The building sits on a stone foundation, has a composition roof, and measures 36 by 50 feet over three bays. Its entrance is at the base of a projecting square tower, topped by a crenelated parapet, with blind arches and louvered round-arched openings. A stained glass window above the double doors reads \"Central College Presbyterian Church 1870.\" All of the round-arched windows are stained glass set in wall recesses. The church cost $4,276 to build; Lyman Day was the brickmason and Stephen Huddleson the carpenter. A fellowship hall was built at the rear of the lot in 1955. It was listed alongside three other village buildings that reflect a community built around the church and college.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"Lyman Day, brickmason; Stephen Huddleson, carpenter","architectural_style":null,"criteria":[],"status_note":"Described as well preserved, unaltered and on its original site; a fellowship hall was added at the rear of the lot in 1955.
