Its original woodwork, etched glass, ceiling castings and interior fittings remain in place. It is presented as a showcase of a residence of a prosperous local citizen of the late 1800s, and as one of the best preserved large mansion-type houses in Cambridge Springs.","narrative":"Built between 1873 and 1876 by Amos Kelly, this frame house in Cambridge Springs, Crawford County, is a large Italianate residence. Its rectangular plan measures 95 by 60 feet, with a low gable roof, wide bracketed eaves, a dentilled cornice and a square cupola over the front entrance. The house sits on a cut stone foundation and has elongated one-over-one windows with arched heads and hood moldings. Inside, black walnut and oak appear in the floors, woodwork, wainscoting and stairs. The curved front stair rail is said to have taken three months to shape by hand. Ceiling castings, a white marble fireplace, original shutters and etched glass door panels bearing the initials A. K. survive. Kelly was a farmer and sawmill owner who, with his brother John, opened the first bank in Cambridge Borough in 1877. The house is regarded as one of the best preserved large mansions in a community that grew around its mineral springs health resort.","period_of_significance":"1873-1876","architect_builder":"Amos Kelly (builder)","architectural_style":"Italianate","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Original interior fittings and etched glass remain; a one-story rear addition and garage were added in the early 1900s.","vacant_flag":null,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-haiku-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.1-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 17:11:32.460469-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_PA/80003477.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/80003477/971396eda8-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/80003477/971396eda8-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 2.0","author":"Doug Kerr from Albany, NY, United States","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Amos_Kelly_House_May_2010.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Doug Kerr from Albany, NY, United States</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 2.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Amos_Kelly_House_May_2010.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/71994887","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amos_Kelly_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q4747897"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/pennsylvania/crawford-county/kelly-amos-house-80003477/"}
