It is also considered one of the most impressive Italianate houses in the village.","narrative":"Built around 1860 at 790 West Main Street in Madison, Ohio, this two-story wood-frame house is a rather grand example of Italianate design. It rests on a sandstone foundation under a hip roof with shingles. Round-arched windows sit within first-floor bays topped by entablatures, while second-floor windows have hoodmolds, and the bracketed eaves carry dentils. A projecting bay on the west side holds a side entrance. The front has flush tongue-and-groove siding, and the sides are covered in horizontal aluminum siding. Horace Ensign built the house, and it later became the home of his daughter, Frances Ensign Fuller, remembered as Madison's most noted woman. She served as a national organizer and lecturer for the Women's Christian Temperance Union from 1907 to 1912 and was also its Ohio president. The property combines this association with architecture that makes it one of the most impressive Italianate houses in the village. It sits on about 1.75 acres with no outbuildings and remains a residence.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"Built by Horace Ensign","architectural_style":"Italianate","criteria":[],"status_note":"Interior and exterior condition listed as excellent; used as a residence.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:53:12.945265-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_OH/80003117.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/80003117/05a8609b7a-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/80003117/05a8609b7a-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"LeeG7144","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:790_W_Main_St.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">LeeG7144</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:790_W_Main_St.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/71985628","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q138446425"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/ohio/lake-county/fuller-frances-ensign-house-80003117/"}
