It is a Romanesque design with a wide arched entrance, arcaded windows and an octagonal tower. It also reflects the growth of the Winton Place congregation, which began in 1856, and Hannaford's own ties to it as a local resident and church trustee president.","narrative":"Winton Place Methodist Episcopal Church is a 1½-story Romanesque church at 700 East Epworth Avenue in Cincinnati. Built of coursed, rock-faced ashlar stone with a slate gable roof, it has a wide Romanesque arch framing the entrance, three arcaded windows separated by smooth columns, and an octagonal tower with narrow belfry windows and a steep slate cap. Smooth limestone trim adds a dressed look. Samuel Hannaford, a Winton Place resident who served as president of the church trustees in 1882, designed the original building. The congregation began in 1856 in an old brick school, built a Gray Road church in 1860, and planned a new building after 1875 on a corner lot donated by Mrs. Samuel Froome. The church was dedicated on January 17, 1886, with 155 members. A large Tudor half-timber Sunday School was added to the west side in 1924, and a stone parish house stands to the north. The church is part of a group of Hannaford works.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"Samuel Hannaford (architect); builder unknown","architectural_style":"Romanesque","criteria":[],"status_note":"Interior and exterior condition listed as good; still in use as a church.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:53:12.193759-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_OH/80003091.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/80003091/997490e997-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/80003091/997490e997-1600.webp","licence":"Public domain","author":"Nyttend","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Winton_Place_Methodist_Episcopal_Church_front.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Nyttend</a>, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Winton_Place_Methodist_Episcopal_Church_front.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/71985418","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winton_Place_Methodist_Episcopal_Church","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q8026616"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/ohio/hamilton-county/winton-place-methodist-episcopal-church-80003091/"}
