It is laid out on a Latin cross plan, with gabled transepts and a gray slate roof. A Romanesque porte cochere on the southwestern facade has tooled sandstone arches and a Catherine wheel window with radial mullions. A large multiple-paned window imported from Munich, Germany, dominates the northeastern gable end. Sandstone trim appears on the gables, water table, window surrounds and buttresses, and small crosses top the gable ends. The window arrangement and the crypt bay on the northwestern facade give the building a medieval character. The chapel stands a short distance southwest of the cemetery's main entrance and gate house. It is described as totally intact and an excellent example of medieval Romanesque architecture, and it is still used as a chapel. It was listed as part of a group of works by Hannaford.","period_of_significance":"1879-1881","architect_builder":"Samuel Hannaford (architect); builder unknown","architectural_style":"Carolingian Romanesque","criteria":[],"status_note":"Interior and exterior condition listed as excellent; still used as a chapel.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:53:12.103745-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_OH/80003086.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/80003086/51955d32d8-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/80003086/51955d32d8-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY 3.0","author":"Photo by Greg Hume (Greg5030)","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:SpringGroveChapel.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Photo by Greg Hume (Greg5030)</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:SpringGroveChapel.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/71985410","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spring_Grove_Cemetery_Chapel","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7580535"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/ohio/hamilton-county/spring-grove-cemetery-chapel-80003086/"}
