The symmetrical building has a large central gable with coursed natural stone, a pseudo-Palladian window set in an ornate Romanesque arch, and matching side porches with low parapet walls and small circular windows. A Norman-style tympanum marks the entrance, and German inscriptions appear over the doors, along with the dates 1842, 1835 and 1880. The congregation traces to 1835, when preacher and missionary William Nast, born in Germany, organized the first German Methodist church in the world in Cincinnati. The group first met in Wesley Chapel, built its first church on this site in 1842, and commissioned Hannaford in 1880 to build the present structure. It merged with Trinity Methodist Church in 1958. The church also contributes to the nineteenth-century religious buildings around Washington Park.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"Samuel Hannaford (architect); builder unknown","architectural_style":"Romanesque Revival","criteria":[],"status_note":"Listed in good exterior condition; in religious use as Nast Trinity Methodist Church.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:53:12.913117-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_OH/80003054.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/80003054/ef4e229269-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/80003054/ef4e229269-1600.webp","licence":"Public domain","author":"Nyttend","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Nast_Trinity_Methodist_front.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Nyttend</a>, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Nast_Trinity_Methodist_front.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/71985402","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nast_Trinity_United_Methodist_Church","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q6967693"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/ohio/hamilton-county/first-german-methodist-episcopal-church-80003054/"}
