Field.","why_significant":"The house is a work of Cincinnati architect Samuel Hannaford and is one of the few frame buildings he designed. It was included as part of a thematic group of Hannaford's works. It is a Victorian Shingle style residence with an Eastlake porch and an octagonal gazebo.","narrative":"Built in 1884 at 3725 Reading Road in Cincinnati, this three-and-a-half-story frame house was designed by architect Samuel Hannaford for Walter H. Field, who later served as president of the American Cotton Oil Company and the Cincinnati Ice Manufacturing and Cold Storage Company. The Victorian Shingle residence has a symmetrical facade, gable ends, a projecting gabled pavilion and an Eastlake porch across the front, with an octagonal gazebo with spindlework frieze at the southeast corner. The first floor is covered in shiplap, the upper floors in wood shingle, and the hip roof with projecting gables is topped by tall corbeled chimneys. When built, it was the only building on the west side of Reading Road in its block; two large 1920s brick apartment buildings now flank it. Hannaford designed few frame buildings, which adds to the interest of this one. The house is now divided into 24 one-room apartments.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"Samuel Hannaford (architect); builder unknown","architectural_style":"Victorian Shingle","criteria":[],"status_note":"Exterior in good condition; originally a residence, now divided into 24 one-room apartments (rooming house use).
