It is also associated with Hugh Broom, an early Baptist minister and church organizer, and with the Broom family's farming and livestock trade along the old road.","narrative":"Built in 1832 for Hugh Broom, this one-and-a-half story sandstone farmhouse sits north of Cambridge on Reed Road, once part of the Old Birmingham Road, laid out in 1818 between Cambridge and Uhrichsville. The facade is ashlar with chiseled margins and tool marks on the stones and sills, workmanship described as unusual in an area where most stonework is plain. The side walls are coursed rubble. Around 1900 an Eastlake-style porch and a frame rear addition were added. Broom was a Baptist minister who organized several local churches in the 1840s and served many years at the Cambridge Baptist Church. He also owned 400 acres in Cambridge township. The family took part in the livestock trade along the road, and a set of hand-operated livestock scales survives in a frame building beside it. Descendants still own the house and 240 acres, which remain in agricultural use with the outbuildings.","period_of_significance":"1800-1899","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":null,"criteria":[],"status_note":"Occupied private residence in excellent condition; the land is still farmed and the house and outbuildings are well preserved.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:53:12.337292-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_OH/80003032.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/80003032/7f9b0afe4d-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/80003032/7f9b0afe4d-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY 3.0","author":"Bwsmith84 (talk)","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Broom_Braden_Stone_House.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Bwsmith84 (talk)</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Broom_Braden_Stone_House.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/71988770","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Broom-Braden_Stone_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q14716378"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/ohio/guernsey-county/broom-braden-stone-house-80003032/"}
