It appears much as it did in an 1873 county atlas drawing and retains details such as a wheel window, iron anchor beams and a battlemented tower.","narrative":"Rosedale Cottage, built around 1863 at 548 East Street in Bucyrus, Ohio, is a three-story Gothic Revival house of common bond brick on an ashlar stone foundation. The front gable has a wheel window and a steeply pitched cross gable roof, and attic windows on the north and south gables are round arched. A three-story tower on the south side is topped with battlements and was added later than the main house. Iron anchor beams show along the south wall, and a brick barn with a slate gable roof stands behind. The house matches a drawing in the 1873 Crawford County Atlas. It was built for Stephen R. Harris, who came to Bucyrus in 1849, practiced law, served as mayor in 1852 and sat in the state legislature. His daughter Nellie left most of her estate to the Bucyrus Public Library as a memorial to him. The house is valued locally for its early owner's civic role and its architecture.","period_of_significance":"1800-1899","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Gothic Revival","criteria":[],"status_note":"Occupied private residence; condition listed as excellent and altered, on its original site.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:53:13.068229-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_OH/80002972.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/80002972/cc3219a0a7-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/80002972/cc3219a0a7-1600.webp","licence":"Public domain","author":"Nyttend","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Stephen_R._Harris_House.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Nyttend</a>, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Stephen_R._Harris_House.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/71987291","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q137628469"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/ohio/crawford-county/harris-stephen-r-house-80002972/"}
