Its main stairway is claimed to be the largest and finest of its period in the county. The house also has secondary significance as the long-time home of a prosperous, politically active farmer.","narrative":"Built in 1833, this brick farmhouse west of West Lafayette, Ohio, is a Greek Revival residence with a five-bay, two-story main block and a rear wing that gives it a T-shaped plan. It rests on a sandstone foundation, with sandstone sills and lintels and unusual nine-over-six window sash. Inside, a large open stairway with a cherry railing and broad cantilevered steps is the most notable feature. Two parlors flank the main hall, and the original woodwork largely survives. The land came from pioneer George Miller, who bought 986 acres in 1806 and sold 300 acres to his son Daniel in 1823. Daniel built the house ten years later. His son Basil, a prosperous farmer and school board member, later owned it, and descendants held it until the 1930s. It was listed because it is a well-preserved Greek Revival farmhouse, one of few five-bay brick examples left in Coshocton County, with a stairway claimed to be the county's finest of its period.","period_of_significance":"1800-1899","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Greek Revival","criteria":[],"status_note":"Described as in excellent condition, on its original site, with some alterations; in use as a private residence.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:53:12.521799-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_OH/80002967.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/80002967/5ecbc83dbd-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/80002967/5ecbc83dbd-1600.webp","licence":"Public domain","author":"Nyttend","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Daniel_Miller_House_near_West_Lafayette.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Nyttend</a>, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Daniel_Miller_House_near_West_Lafayette.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/71987259","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q137624787"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/ohio/coshocton-county/miller-daniel-house-80002967/"}
