His family arrived in the early 1830s and never returned to New York City. The clapboard house has a stone foundation, gable roof and a roofline balustrade. Its three-bay front porch has four fluted Doric columns under a full entablature, considered some of the finest classical detailing in Westchester County. Masterton may have designed the house himself. In the 1920s, local architect Penrose V. Stout added a two-story wing on the east and south sides. Masterton was a major figure in the Tuckahoe marble industry, and his descendants helped found a local church and savings bank, served in town government, and supported social services. The house stayed in family hands until 1959. Grape arbors, a pump with a Tuckahoe marble base and a ginkgo tree from the 1830s survive on the grounds.","period_of_significance":"1800-1899","architect_builder":"Attributed to Alexander Masterton; 1920s addition by Penrose V.
