The nomination also says it illustrates Georgian, Federal and some Greek Revival design and represents the village's early settlement period. Its interior and floor plan remain substantially intact.","narrative":"Set at 272 Union Street in Montgomery, New York, the Johannes Miller Farmhouse, also known as Montgomery House or Saratoga Farms, grew in stages in 1771, 1790 and 1835. The main block is a two-story frame house with five bays, a side entrance, 12/12 windows, Palladian windows and a round-arched entry with original lead tracery in the transom. A older one-story section keeps its beaded siding. Greek Revival detailing was added in 1835. Inside are an open staircase, original mantels in Federal and Georgian styles, plaster cornices and two original box locks. The house sits near where Palatine German settlers lived on the Harrison tract. Johannes Miller built the first house on the site and a road to the Palatine community in Newburgh. His son, Johannes Miller Jr., quartered soldiers during the Revolution, entertained Lafayette and helped found local institutions. Restored in the 1970s, the property keeps about 3 acres with gardens, a pond and a stone springhouse.","period_of_significance":"1800-1899 and 1900- (boxes checked); specific dates not stated","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Georgian, Federal and Greek Revival elements","criteria":[],"status_note":"Fell into disrepair in the 20th century and was restored in the 1970s; the interior remains substantially intact, with formal gardens, a pond and a stone springhouse on the remaining 3 acres.","vacant_flag":null,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:50:41.229232-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/80002737.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/80002737/e2ff8c9c6d-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/80002737/e2ff8c9c6d-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Daniel Case","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Johannes_Miller_House.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Daniel Case</a>, <a href=\"http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Johannes_Miller_House.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75314215","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johannes_Miller_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q6216861"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/orange-county/miller-johannes-house-80002737/"}
