Designed by the firm of Heins & LaFarge, it is a one-story building of buff-colored brick on a granite base, with limestone quoins, triglyphs and volutes at the corners and a smooth limestone band beneath the eaves. Each gable end carries a bull's-eye with radiating keystones. The northern front has a projecting limestone porch with engaged columns and a stylized pediment, while the southern front has a brick porch with three doors. A 1978 renovation added aluminum and glass doors and windows and a glass roof in place of copper sheets. It still serves as the entrance to Bowling Green Station. It is listed as part of a group of four surviving control houses, valued for architecture and for its association with the early history of the city's subway system.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"Heins & LaFarge, consulting architects for the subway system; 1978 renovation under Paul Katz, architect for the Transit Authority","architectural_style":null,"criteria":[],"status_note":"Completely renovated in 1978 and still serves as the entrance to the Bowling Green Station.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:50:42.100757-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/80002669.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/80002669/e91871c571-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/80002669/e91871c571-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"Daniel Schwen","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Bowling_Green_station_1.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Daniel Schwen</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Bowling_Green_station_1.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75313847","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q8244955"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/manhattan/battery-park-control-house-80002669/"}
