It is one of four similar workmen's cottages on West Main Street and the only one that remains intact. It illustrates housing for workers drawn by the quarries and railroad.","narrative":"Built in 1865, this modest frame cottage on West Main Street in Nelliston is a rare unaltered example of housing for workingmen's families. It has a gable front, three bays, narrow siding, corner boards, a simple boxed eave, and double-hung windows with unusual wooden lintels that have cut-out detail. Original six-over-six windows survive upstairs, and a bracketed porch with cut-out railings remains in place. A nineteenth-century addition extends from the rear. Inside, the plan includes a kitchen at the rear, a narrow hall with a turned-baluster staircase, a small parlor, a dining room, and two upstairs bedrooms. Stoves provided heat. The lot was bought in 1865 by Dewitt Lasher from Abram Nellis, who helped develop the village. Four similar cottages were built on small lots here to house workers drawn by the quarries and railroad, and this is the only one not altered in unsuitable ways. Its listing recognizes both its historical and architectural value to the village.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":null,"criteria":[],"status_note":"Described as little altered and in intact condition, with its original porch retained.","vacant_flag":null,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:50:43.557535-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/80002656.pdf"},"photo":null,"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75313684","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lasher-Davis_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q6493196"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/montgomery-county/lasher-davis-house-80002656/"}
