It was built around 1900 and has a boathouse/guesthouse, ice house, gazebo and other outbuildings.","why_significant":"The nomination argues Ingleside is a fine example of an eclectic Queen Anne style summer home in a dramatic picturesque setting. It is notable for complex massing, rich detailing and extensive rustic stonework in both the building and landscaping. It is also one of the best preserved examples of the elaborate summer residences of wealthy families in the Thousand Islands.","narrative":"Ingleside is a two and a half story summer house of frame and stone on the northeast tip of Cherry Island in the St. Lawrence River. Built around 1900 for New York merchant Abraham Abraham, it is asymmetrically massed, with towers, verandas and exposed stone foundations that jut from the steep hillside. Its style is picturesque eclectic, drawing on Queen Anne and Shingle features. Inside, natural finish wood paneling, built-in cabinets, leaded and stained glass, a large open staircase and massive stone fireplaces survive largely intact. The grounds hold an ice house, a boathouse with guest apartments, a gazebo, a terraced pool, a pumphouse and a small island reached by an arched walking bridge. The property is considered significant as one of the best preserved large summer residences built by wealthy families drawn to the Thousand Islands. Unlike many resort homes that declined or were demolished after the 1930s depression, it has been continuously maintained.","period_of_significance":"1900-","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Picturesque eclectic, with Queen Anne and Shingle style features","criteria":[],"status_note":"Described as in excellent condition, unaltered, occupied as a private residence and continuously maintained.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:50:42.892401-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/80002622.pdf"},"photo":null,"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75318245","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ingleside_(Alexandria_Bay,_New_York)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q6032638"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/jefferson-county/ingleside-80002622/"}
