It is also associated with the formation of Uxbridge, since it hosted the town's first two town meetings in July and August 1727. The form also notes the site may hold archaeological material on rural life in the Early Historic Period.","narrative":"Built between about 1710 and 1727, this one and one-half story timber frame house on Mendon Street in Uxbridge, Massachusetts, was the home of Cornet John Farnum, who came to Mendon in 1701 and acquired the land before 1710. It has a rectangular plan, a massive central brick chimney, a fieldstone foundation, clapboard siding and a wood-shingled gambrel roof. The south facade has a symmetrical five-bay arrangement with a pilastered entrance holding a four-panel door. The house matters for its architecture, as a well-preserved example of a popular early eighteenth-century house type that has become rare in surrounding towns. It also matters for local government: Uxbridge's first two town meetings, in July and August 1927 by the town's calendar of 1727, were held here, where voters chose a meeting-house site and elected the first town officers. The Town of Uxbridge acquired it in 1968 and is restoring it as a museum, open to the public since 1977.","period_of_significance":"c. 1710-1727","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Early 18th-century vernacular domestic architecture (gambrel-roofed, central-chimney house)","criteria":[],"status_note":"Owned by the Town of Uxbridge and undergoing gradual restoration and conversion to a museum; first floor replastered and partly furnished, opened to the public in 1977.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:11:54.994249-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/18/7974/63797418/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/80001682.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/80001682/fd77b4fe82-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/80001682/fd77b4fe82-1600.webp","licence":"CC0","author":"Daderot","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Coronet_John_Farnum,_Jr.,_House_-_Uxbridge,_Massachusetts_-_DSC02844.JPG\" rel=\"noopener\">Daderot</a>, <a href=\"http://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0/deed.en\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Coronet_John_Farnum,_Jr.,_House_-_Uxbridge,_Massachusetts_-_DSC02844.JPG"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63797418","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coronet_John_Farnum_Jr._House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5172297"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/worcester-county/farnum-coronet-john-house-80001682/"}
