It was built around 1865 by Elijah Dodge Gorham.","why_significant":"The nomination calls it one of the finest examples of Italianate architecture in the region, with construction quality superior to most of its contemporaries. It shows the use of local materials, including Joliet limestone obtained in exchange for farm timber and local walnut woodwork. The house, barn and surrounding landscape have changed very little since construction.","narrative":"Southeast of Lockport in Will County, Stone Manor is an Italianate farmhouse built around 1865 for Elijah Dodge Gorham, who came to Homer Township from Dutchess County, New York, in 1853. The two-story house measures 36 by 40 feet and has symmetrical lines, arched windows, ornate trim and a cupola. Its walls are 19-inch-thick Joliet limestone blocks, obtained in exchange for timber cut on the farmstead. Inside, hand-carved walnut doors and trim and a walnut staircase rising to the attic are the main features. A gable-roofed barn stands behind the house, built with a limestone foundation and hand-hewn beams that are notched and pegged. Original limestone hitching posts remain. The house and landscape have changed little in about 115 years. Gorham later moved to Kansas, and the property stayed with the Frazer family from 1906 until 1977. It was listed for its architecture, its use of local materials and its well-preserved setting.","period_of_significance":"1800-1899 (specific date 1865)","architect_builder":"Elijah Gorham, builder","architectural_style":"Italianate","criteria":[],"status_note":"Described as in good condition, occupied and used as a private residence; the house is said to be virtually unchanged since construction.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:55:35.427514-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/5/8943/28894305/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_IL/80001420.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/80001420/f60b62b1b4-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/80001420/f60b62b1b4-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"User:Teemu08","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Stone_Manor_Homer_Glen.JPG\" rel=\"noopener\">User:Teemu08</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Stone_Manor_Homer_Glen.JPG"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/28894305","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stone_Manor","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7618983"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/illinois/will-county/stone-manor-80001420/"}
