Its central square location, surrounded by businesses, means it has always served an economic as well as a governmental purpose.","narrative":"Talbot County's courthouse, completed in 1892 on a two-acre square in Talbotton, was designed by the firm Bruce & Morgan and built by Westbrook & Bennett for $17,000. Its brick facade is Queen Anne in style, with a tall clock tower topped by a pyramid at the east corner and a squat bell-capped tower at the west, joined by a gable over a Romanesque arched entry that carries the construction date in terra cotta. Inside, the courtroom has a coved ceiling with sixty-six beaded-board squares in a checkerboard pattern, repeated in the bench and wainscoting. Small stained glass squares remain in the transoms, and tall narrow doorways have corner blocks with a bulls-eye motif. The building is smaller and more picturesque than many Bruce & Morgan courthouses and is one of several Georgia examples of their Queen Anne work. Surrounded by businesses, it has always played an economic role in the town. Its condition is described as fair.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"Bruce & Morgan (architect); Westbrook & Bennett (contractor)","architectural_style":"Queen Anne","criteria":[],"status_note":"Condition listed as fair, with some need for additional space.","vacant_flag":null,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:55:40.918248-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_GA/80001241.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/80001241/94bf6dafad-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/80001241/94bf6dafad-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Rivers Langley; SaveRivers","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Talbot_County,_GA_Courthouse.JPG\" rel=\"noopener\">Rivers Langley; SaveRivers</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Talbot_County,_GA_Courthouse.JPG"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/93206612","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talbot_County_Courthouse_(Georgia)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q55634628"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/georgia/talbot-county/talbot-county-courthouse-80001241/"}
