W. Golucke, whose general significance is covered in a separate thematic statement. Its Y-shaped plan resembles that of the Johnson County courthouse, also designed by Golucke in 1895. It was nominated as part of a thematic group of Georgia county courthouses.","narrative":"Pike County's courthouse in Zebulon is a two-story painted brick building completed in 1895 for $18,200. Designed by Golucke and Stewart and built by contractor Arthur Marshall of Wetumpka, Alabama, it follows the Romanesque style. Four gabled pavilions give the exterior a compact form, and a large round arch marks the front entry beside a projecting clock tower. A cyclone damaged the top of that tower, and a much smaller replacement now stands in its place. First-floor windows are segmentally arched, while second-floor windows are round arched with ornamental keystones. Inside, halls lead from a large foyer with a staircase in a Y-shaped plan. The courtroom retains an ornate pressed metal ceiling, some old four-blade fans and bare bulbs hung from single cords. Its litigation area is unusually large, with a simple wooden bench framed by a plain entablature and engaged Corinthian columns. The building is tied to architect J. W. Golucke, who used a similar Y plan at the Johnson County courthouse in 1895.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"Golucke and Stewart (architects); Arthur Marshall of Wetumpka, Alabama (contractor)","architectural_style":"Romanesque","criteria":[],"status_note":"Condition rated fair; the original clock tower top was damaged in a cyclone and replaced with a much smaller one.","vacant_flag":null,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:55:41.457751-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_GA/80001222.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/80001222/da33a06331-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/80001222/da33a06331-1600.webp","licence":"Public domain","author":"Calvin Beale","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Pike_County_Georgia_Courthouse.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Calvin Beale</a>, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Pike_County_Georgia_Courthouse.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/93206562","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pike_County_Courthouse_(Georgia)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q16898404"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/georgia/pike-county/pike-county-courthouse-80001222/"}
