It is also the only true Colonial or Williamsburg Revival courthouse in the thematic nomination and one of a few in the state.","narrative":"Peach County Courthouse in Fort Valley is a brick building in the Colonial, or Williamsburg, Revival style. The original block, built in 1935-1936, has a two-story, gable-roofed central section with a projecting pedimented bay, three arched entryways, and a cupola topped by a weathervane. One-story square wings flank the center. A T-shaped addition completed in 1972 sits behind the original building and gives the complex an H-shaped plan. Its one-story courtroom has high ceilings that match the height of the original two-story block, and its two-story office portion is about the same size as the original. The courthouse matters because Peach County was the last of Georgia's 161 counties, created after a constitutional amendment ratified in November 1924. This building has been its only courthouse. It is also the only true Williamsburg Revival courthouse among those grouped in the state's courthouse nomination, and one of a few in Georgia. Its records of marriages, wills and land transactions chronicle the county.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Colonial (Williamsburg) Revival","criteria":[],"status_note":"Condition is described as good; the original 1936 interior was remodeled when the addition was built.","vacant_flag":null,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:55:40.97181-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_GA/80001219.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/80001219/19ae97222a-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/80001219/19ae97222a-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Bubba73 (Jud McCranie)","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Peach_County_Courthouse,_Fort_Valley,_GA,_US.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Bubba73 (Jud McCranie)</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Peach_County_Courthouse,_Fort_Valley,_GA,_US.jpg"},"district":{"nrhp_refnum":"10000549","name":"Fort Valley Downtown and Railroad Historic District","url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/districts/georgia/fort-valley-downtown-and-railroad-historic-district-10000549/"},"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/93206556","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peach_County_Courthouse","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q27957723"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/georgia/peach-county/peach-county-courthouse-80001219/"}
