It is also significant architecturally for its carved wooden door lintel and its turned columns and balustrade. It represents the housing of middle-income white families in Columbus before 1900.","narrative":"Built around 1895 at 1011 3rd Avenue in Columbus, Georgia, this one-story Victorian cottage is a modest example of middle-income housing from the late nineteenth century. It has a rectangular plan with an offset rear room, a hip roof, a central chimney and weatherboard frame construction. A porch runs the length of the front, supported by turned columns with decorative brackets and a turned baluster rail. The entrance has a transom and a carved wooden lintel with a keystone, balanced by two floor-length sash windows. The house appears on the 1895 Sanborn map but not the 1889 one. The 1896-1897 city directory lists Max Rosenberg, an associate in a Broad Street harness and saddlery firm, living here; by 1898-1899 a clerk occupied it. It was recognized for its local history and for its carved and turned woodwork, which reflect the housing stock of middle-income white families in Columbus before 1900. The house remains in good condition.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Victorian Cottage","criteria":[],"status_note":"Described as in good condition, with a current use of residential rental; it sits in a residential area that has become commercial.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:55:39.974341-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_GA/80001196.pdf"},"photo":null,"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/93206516","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":null},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/georgia/muscogee-county/rosenberg-max-house-80001196/"}
