Dismukes.","why_significant":"The house is significant to local history as the home of Elisha P. Dismukes, a Columbus businessman whose family was important to the city's development. It is also significant architecturally as a late Victorian house where the builder used classical revival features such as 1/1 sash windows, a classical porch and quoins. It is the only residence in its survey area with quoins of this type.","narrative":"Built around 1902 at 1515 3rd Avenue in Columbus, Georgia, this two-story weatherboard frame house follows an ell plan with a truncated hip and gable roof, four interior chimneys and a one-story porch across the front. The central entrance has sidelights and a transom, and a boxed cornice with gable returns and brackets finishes the eaves. City directories first list the address in 1902, when Elisha P. Dismukes lived there. Over the following years he served as an officer of the Georgia Manufacturing Company, Dismukes Grocery Company, Albright Manufacturing Company and the Columbus, Georgia Buggy Company. He stayed until 1918, when his son moved in and lived there until about 1925. The house was recognized for this link to a prominent Columbus family and for its architecture. Classical revival details, including the porch, 1/1 sash windows and quoins, appear on a late Victorian form, and no other residence in its neighborhood uses quoins of this type. Part of the porch was enclosed about 1950.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Late Victorian with classical revival features","criteria":[],"status_note":"Current use is a boarding house; condition described as fair, with a section of the porch enclosed around 1950.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:55:41.369136-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_GA/80001164.pdf"},"photo":null,"district":{"nrhp_refnum":"04000669","name":"High Uptown Historic District","url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/districts/georgia/high-uptown-historic-district-04000669/"},"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/93206460","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":null},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/georgia/muscogee-county/elisha-p-dismukes-house-80001164/"}
