The house was the home of Maurice (Morris) Koehne, who rose from pattern maker at Columbus Iron Works to owner of his own pattern and model business while living there. Architecturally, it is one of a limited number of Greek Revival homes in Columbus with a stucco facade, and one of the more simply designed ones.","narrative":"Built around 1860, this one-story Greek Revival house at 221 9th Street in Columbus, Georgia, is a simply designed frame dwelling with a hipped roof, weatherboard walls and a stucco front facade. The five-bay front has a central door with sidelights and a transom, and a full-length porch with square tapered columns lacking capitals. A complete entablature runs around the house, and the interior follows a central hall plan with four rooms and a kitchen ell. It appears on Sanborn maps of 1889 and 1895 and is described as one of the earlier homes in downtown Columbus. City directories show that Maurice (Morris) Koehne lived here from about 1896 to 1908. He advanced from pattern maker at Columbus Iron Works to proprietor of Koehne Pattern and Model Works, then became superintendent of Columbus Foundry and Machine Company. The house is valued for that local association and as one of few Greek Revival homes in the city with a stucco facade.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Greek Revival","criteria":[],"status_note":"Described as a private dwelling in good condition, in an area rapidly becoming commercial but still with residential structures to the north and west.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:55:41.524597-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_GA/80001141.pdf"},"photo":null,"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/93206412","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q134400455"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/georgia/muscogee-county/building-at-221-ninth-street-80001141/"}
