Dismukes, a lawyer, businessman and city official. Architecturally, it is a large sprawling house with no distinguishable style, probably built to impress neighbors by size rather than style.","narrative":"This large two-story house at 1519 3rd Avenue in Columbus, Georgia, was built around 1908-1910 in what was once the elite \"High Uptown\" neighborhood. It has a hip roof with a centered dormer, a two-story bay, seven bays on each floor, and a front porch with square columns, gingerbread brackets and dentil moulding. The form describes it as eclectic, with no distinguishable style, borrowing Victorian door and porch detailing and some Classical Revival elements. It was probably built to impress neighbors through sheer size, making a social statement about early twentieth-century Columbus. A one-story frame house stood on the site in 1889 and 1895. John Bleecker, general manager of the Columbus Railroad Company, lived here from 1910 to 1914. Robert E. Dismukes then lived here through 1923. He was a lawyer, insurance agent, mill director and long-serving city council member. The house was later extended and its porch partly filled in around 1920, and it now holds apartments.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Eclectic; no distinguishable style, with Victorian-era door and porch detailing and some Classical Revival porch detailing","criteria":[],"status_note":"Listed as apartments in current use and described as in good condition.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:55:40.759705-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_GA/80001126.pdf"},"photo":null,"district":{"nrhp_refnum":"04000669","name":"High Uptown Historic District","url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/districts/georgia/high-uptown-historic-district-04000669/"},"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/93206398","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Building_at_1519_3rd_Avenue","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q85749438"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/georgia/muscogee-county/building-at-1519-3rd-avenue-80001126/"}
