It is also described as the only Greek Revival church standing in Columbus, with fine craftsmanship in its pilasters with corbelled brick capitals.","narrative":"Built in 1873 at 1323-1325 Broadway in Columbus, Georgia, this two-story brick building began as the sanctuary of the Broad Street Methodist Episcopal Church South. The congregation worshipped here until 1912, when it sold the property and moved to Third Avenue. From 1915 to 1931 the building housed The Columbus Ledger, one of the city's two daily newspapers, which added an upper floor and used the basement for press and carrier rooms. A local chapter of the Elks later used it. Architecturally, it has a rectangular plan, gable roof, common bond brick walls and a three-bay front, with two-story brick pilasters topped by corbelled caps supporting a brick entablature. A circa 1950 addition altered the first floor. The building is considered significant as the only Greek Revival church remaining in Columbus, as one of the oldest sanctuaries downtown, and as one of the oldest buildings on Broadway. It is now used as a business establishment and is in fair condition.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Greek Revival","criteria":[],"status_note":"Current use is a business establishment; condition described as fair.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:55:41.294476-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_GA/80001125.pdf"},"photo":null,"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/93206390","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Broad_Street_Methodist_Episcopal_Church_South","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q4971966"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/georgia/muscogee-county/broad-street-methodist-episcopal-church-south-80001125/"}
