It is described as an excellent example of Greek Revival style as interpreted by pre-Civil War architect/builders.","narrative":"Greene County's courthouse in Greensboro, Georgia, was built in 1848-49 for $7,440 and remains a prominent example of Greek Revival design. The brick building is laid in American bond and has a full-width, three-story Doric portico with entablature and pediment. Two one-story wings, designed by F. Arthur Hazard, were added in 1938. Inside, dual staircases just past the entry lead to the courtroom, which has a pedimented double doorway with engaged columns, two interior columns, a cornice with five-pointed stars that were once gilded, a paneled bench and urn-shaped finials on the railing. The building was first planned with two stories, but a third was added for and by the county's Masons, who still use it. It is described as the only 1840s Greek Revival courthouse left in Georgia and the only one built with a floor for a Masonic Lodge. It is listed in excellent condition.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"David Demarest; Atharates Atkinson (contractor unknown); 1938 wings by architect F.
