Morgan and Dillon designed it, and W. T. Jay of Shellman served as contractor. The two-and-a-half-story Neo-Classical building has a hipped roof and two-story tetrastyle porticos on the north and south facades. Tuscan columns carry eight bands on their lower thirds, and the pediment has an oculus. A heavy dome rises from an octagonal base with four recessed clocks set under projecting round arches. Brick quoins mark the corners, and the original chimneys remain. Inside are grey marble wainscoting, floors and stairs. The courthouse is described as the most outstanding building in Early County. Its cross plan also served an economic purpose, because businesses on all four sides of the square prospered thanks to their proximity to it. Heating and air conditioning were added in 1972.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"Morgan and Dillon (architects); W. T. Jay of Shellman, Ga.
