It rises from a rock-faced granite foundation to a slate-covered hip roof with a decorative gabled pavilion at the center. The main entry sits in the first story of that pavilion, framed by an ogee arch and clustered columns, and is flanked by three-sided bay windows joined by an open porch whose railing is pierced with quatrefoils. The gable has an apron with trefoils and bargeboards ending in quatrefoils, and the dormers carry similar trim. Side windows have gabled caps with incised decoration on the first floor and moulded caps on consoles above. The first occupant was George Cobb, a fish and oyster merchant, whose ownership continued into the early twentieth century. The house was listed for its architectural character and its well-preserved original detail. The architect is unknown.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Victorian Gothic","criteria":[],"status_note":"Used as a residence; the form says the building is unaltered and has not been moved.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:11:53.936879-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/65/7928/63792865/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/80000571.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/80000571/4c56202867-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/80000571/4c56202867-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"John Phelan","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:George_Cobb_House,_Worcester_MA.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">John Phelan</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:George_Cobb_House,_Worcester_MA.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63792865","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Cobb_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5538005"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/worcester-county/cobb-george-house-80000571/"}
