Themes checked are architecture and community development.","narrative":"Built in 1847 at 12 George Street in Worcester, this clapboard house was the home of Tilley Raymond, a carpenter turned builder. It is a two-and-one-half-story Greek Revival dwelling with a side-hall plan, set on a rock-faced granite foundation. The three-bay facade has corner pilasters and a pedimented gable, and a Doric porch runs across the first story. The paired entry doors are replacements from about 1875, while most of the 6/6 sash is original. Raymond, born in 1812 in Royalston, came to Worcester in 1834 and later partnered with Horatio Tower. Tower & Raymond were among the city's most active builders of the 1840s and 1850s, and their work included the Old Central Church and Mechanics' Hall. After Raymond's death, his son Edward, a Civil War veteran who became Chief of Police and clerk of the Central District Court, lived here. Henry E. Whitcomb bought the house in 1898 and converted it to apartments.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Greek Revival","criteria":[],"status_note":"Present use is residential; converted to apartments in 1898 and used as apartments to the present.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:11:55.024884-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/25/7929/63792925/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/80000568.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/80000568/caaeb11052-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/80000568/caaeb11052-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Pvmoutside","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Tilley_Raymond_House.JPG\" rel=\"noopener\">Pvmoutside</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Tilley_Raymond_House.JPG"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63792925","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tilley_Raymond_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7802824"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/worcester-county/raymond-tilley-house-80000568/"}
