It is a local example of Second Empire architecture, one of the few buildings of that style in the city with a known architect. The pressed-brick house rises two and a half stories under a slate-covered mansard roof with gabled and arched dormers. Its symmetrical facade has a center entrance set between three-sided bay windows, with brick quoining and a modillioned cornice. Apart from a modern front door, it is unaltered and in excellent condition. The property keeps its original granite stoop, rock-faced granite retaining wall and granite gate posts. Marble (1824-1906), a native of Charlton, came to Worcester in 1853 and built a business as a druggist and dealer in paints, oils and chemicals. He also served as a bank director and tried to start an excursion car company. The house now serves as offices.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"Elbridge Boyden","architectural_style":"Second Empire","criteria":[],"status_note":"Used as offices; described as unaltered apart from a modern front door and in excellent condition.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:11:54.518321-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/63/7928/63792863/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/80000567.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/80000567/1904106ec1-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/80000567/1904106ec1-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Pvmoutside","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Jerome_Marble_House_Worcester_MA.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Pvmoutside</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Jerome_Marble_House_Worcester_MA.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63792863","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jerome_Marble_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q6182829"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/worcester-county/marble-jerome-house-80000567/"}
