It has two full storeys and a third beneath a slate-covered mansard roof. The symmetrical north facade has a center entry and open porch flanked by three-sided bay windows. Trim includes quoins, sandstone window lintels with incised decoration, decorative brickwork beneath the cornice, and brackets on the cornice and dormers. A dressed granite retaining wall and gate posts run along the frontage. The house is tied to Daniel Stevens (1818-1888), a Charlton native who went to California in 1850 seeking gold, then returned to Worcester and formed a painting partnership with his brother Charles. The firm grew into sash, door and blind manufacturing, and later grain, flour and real estate ventures. The brothers shared a house on the site from 1853, and Daniel occupied the present house after 1880. Remaining in nearly original condition, it is valued as an excellent local example of its style. It is now used as apartments.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Second Empire","criteria":[],"status_note":"Present use is residential apartments; described as in nearly original condition, with porch posts replaced in the mid-20th century.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:11:54.739469-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/61/7929/63792961/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/80000532.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/80000532/739f01ee24-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/80000532/739f01ee24-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Pvmoutside","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Daniel_Stevens_House.JPG\" rel=\"noopener\">Pvmoutside</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Daniel_Stevens_House.JPG"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63792961","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daniel_Stevens_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5218844"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/worcester-county/stevens-daniel-house-80000532/"}
