It is also tied to Frederick Daniels, a Worcester steel engineer and executive at Washburn and Moen who held 151 patents and became company president.","narrative":"Built around 1885 at 148 Lincoln Street in Worcester, this Queen Anne style house was the home of steel engineer Frederick H. Daniels. Asymmetrical in plan and massing, it rises from a brick first storey trimmed with rock-faced sandstone, black brick banding and terra cotta panels. The second floor and attic are frame, covered with clapboards and decorative shingling. Porches on the first and second storeys face south, and an entry porch on the east facade carries a sunburst in its gable, with another sunburst above the arched first-storey window. The house remains in original condition. Daniels (1853-1913) came to Worcester as a child, graduated from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 1873 and joined Washburn and Moen, studying steel-making in Philadelphia and Europe. He became general superintendent in 1888 and president in 1907, took out 151 patents for furnaces and rolling mills, won a gold medal at the 1900 Paris Exposition, and received a Swedish knighthood in 1910.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Queen Anne","criteria":[],"status_note":"Present use is residence; the form states the house is in original condition and has not been altered or moved.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:11:54.359001-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/37/7930/63793037/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/80000526.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/80000526/3ec87655dd-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/80000526/3ec87655dd-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Pvmoutside","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Frederick_Daniels_House_Worcester_MA.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Pvmoutside</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Frederick_Daniels_House_Worcester_MA.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63793037","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frederick_Daniels_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5497631"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/worcester-county/daniels-frederick-house-80000526/"}
