It is of similar quality and association to the nearby Massachusetts Avenue Historic District.","narrative":"Built in 1905 at 190 Salisbury Street in Worcester, this two and one-half storey frame house was designed by architect George Clemence in the Colonial Revival style. It has a hip roof, a symmetrical east facade with two semi-circular bay windows, a center entrance and a Palladian window above the entry. Clapboard covers the walls, and a stable survives on the large lot. Originally named \"Elmarion,\" the front section remains unaltered, while the rear wing was partly rebuilt in the 1920s or 1930s, adding a south entry behind a semi-circular porch and French doors on the second story. The house was built for Harry Goddard (1863-1927), who rose from a job at the Spencer Wire Company at seventeen to become its president and general manager. By 1917 his Webster Street plant employed about eight hundred people. He led the Worcester Board of Trade in 1903 and hosted Secretary of War Taft at the house in 1905.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"George Clemence (architect)","architectural_style":"Colonial Revival","criteria":[],"status_note":"Still used as a residence; the rear wing was partly rebuilt in the 1920s or 1930s and the house is now partly hidden by evergreen plantings.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:11:53.512539-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/15/7930/63793015/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/80000525.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/80000525/d0a11be7aa-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/80000525/d0a11be7aa-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY 4.0","author":"Mark Landon","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Harry_Goddard_House,_Worcester,_MA_(G._Clemence,_1905)_06_from_SE.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Mark Landon</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Harry_Goddard_House,_Worcester,_MA_(G._Clemence,_1905)_06_from_SE.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63793015","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harry_Goddard_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5669129"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/worcester-county/goddard-harry-house-80000525/"}
