It appears unaltered after about 1820 and has a long, previously little-noticed association with the Gleason, Flagg and White farming families, in an area that stayed rural until World War I.","narrative":"Located north of central Worcester on Burncoat Street, this one-storey timber-frame farmhouse dates to the eighteenth century, possibly around 1748. It rises from a rubble foundation to a pitched roof and has a central chimney, an asymmetrical facade with one door and three windows, 12-over-12 and 8-over-12 sash, and a sunken four-panel front door with a four-pane transom dating to about 1790-1820. A one-storey rear ell extends behind. The area stayed rural until World War I, and the house is regarded as one of the city's few well-preserved timber-frame dwellings and among its best preserved Cape Cod style houses. Its ownership passed through the Gleason and Flagg families. Jonathan White, a farmer, held it for most of the nineteenth century after marrying Amos Flagg's widow, and his heirs kept it until 1914, when the surrounding land was subdivided into house lots. Little appears in traditional historical sources, and the house appears unaltered after about 1820.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"Probably none; original owner Amos Flagg (first known)","architectural_style":"Timber-frame vernacular (\"Cape Cod\" style)","criteria":[],"status_note":"Present use is residence; the house appears unaltered after ca. 1820.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:11:54.792163-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/9/7930/63793009/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/80000515.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/80000515/a74fd2fe6a-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/80000515/a74fd2fe6a-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Pvmoutside","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Amos_Flagg_House_Worcester_MA.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Pvmoutside</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Amos_Flagg_House_Worcester_MA.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63793009","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amos_Flagg_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q4747862"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/worcester-county/flagg-amos-house-80000515/"}
