It is checked for architecture and social/humanitarian themes. Its original Romanesque-influenced section and Classical Revival addition illustrate institutional design of the period.","narrative":"Set on a hilltop at 40 Randolph Road in Worcester and once surrounded by fields, the Odd Fellows' Home was built as a residence for the aged by the International Order of Odd Fellows. Construction of the three-and-one-half-storey brick central section began in 1890, and it opened in 1892. A five-storey clock tower, grouped windows and rock-faced granite trim recall Romanesque Revival design, while the rest of the walls are plain apart from projecting brick piers and slight corbelling at the cornice. A slate hip roof with dormers covers the building. In 1902 a two-and-one-half-storey addition on the east wall raised capacity to 110 residents. It shows Classical Revival features, including limestone quoins, a medillioned cornice and a Tuscan porch. Thomas Dodge, a Worcester inventor and patent lawyer, gave eleven acres for the home and later donated thirteen neighboring acres to the city to preserve light and air. The home is one of several charitable institutions built on Worcester's outskirts in the nineteenth century.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"Baker & Nourse (1892 + 1902)","architectural_style":"Victorian Institutional (element of Romanesque)","criteria":[],"status_note":"Present use is a home for the aged, the same as its original use.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:11:55.018129-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/67/7930/63793067/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/80000513.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/80000513/57793826fb-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/80000513/57793826fb-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Sfoskett~commonswiki","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Odd_Fellows%27_Home,_Worcester,_Massachusetts.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Sfoskett~commonswiki</a>, <a href=\"http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Odd_Fellows%27_Home,_Worcester,_Massachusetts.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63793067","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Odd_Fellows%27_Home_(Worcester,_Massachusetts)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7077325"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/worcester-county/odd-fellows-home-80000513/"}
