It retains integrity of setting, design, materials and workmanship. It is also tied to early Ipswich through tanner Nathaniel Rust and later owners such as Dr. Samuel Rogers.","narrative":"Located at 83 County Street in Ipswich, this 2 1/2 story house has a heavy timber frame, clapboard sheathing, an end-gable roof and twin rear wall chimneys. Its asymmetrical five-bay facade reflects a seventeenth century origin, while the pilastered entry with side lights and the modillion cornice come from Federal-period changes. The exact building date and original owner are uncertain, though William Goodhue is the first known owner. He conveyed the house to Nathaniel Rust, a tanner and glover, in 1665. Later owners included Dr. Samuel Rogers, whose wife ran a well-regarded school for young ladies. In 1836 the lot went to the South Parish as a church site, and Asa Brown moved the house to its present location in 1837 and remodeled it. The north section is the oldest part and contains two small parallel summer beams. It is one of few first period houses outside Ipswich's historic districts.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"First Period with Federal alterations","criteria":[],"status_note":"Used as a present residence; moved to its present location in 1837.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:11:54.394521-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/44/7900/63790044/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/80000440.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/80000440/de77ffb737-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/80000440/de77ffb737-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"User:Magicpiano","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:IpswichMA_NathanielRustMansion.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">User:Magicpiano</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:IpswichMA_NathanielRustMansion.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63790044","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nathaniel_Rust_Mansion","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q6969838"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/essex-county/rust-nathaniel-mansion-80000440/"}
