It is built of brick with stone trim, pilasters, a stone foundation and a flat composition roof. A powerful stone and brick cornice crowns the facade, and large plate glass windows light the ground-floor banking room. The front is three bays wide, and the building is still used as a bank. Inside, a suspended ceiling and modern decor replaced earlier finishes. The survey calls it perhaps Vermilion's most pretentious commercial building and the community's finest example of Neo-Classical architecture. Banks have occupied this corner for a long time, and the building's prominent position makes it a major contributor to the town's visual historic landscape. It was included in a multiple resource listing of Vermilion's Harbour Town area. The community has recently planted street trees in front of it.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Neo Classical","criteria":[],"status_note":"Still used as a bank; listed in good interior and exterior condition, with the interior modernized with a suspended ceiling and modern decor.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:53:12.352134-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_OH/79003953.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/79003953/8a1575d343-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/79003953/8a1575d343-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"LeeG7144","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Erie_County_Bank.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">LeeG7144</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Erie_County_Bank.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/71984946","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q137784617"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/ohio/erie-county/erie-county-bank-building-79003953/"}
