The main section carries a massive entablature with partial returns. Below it, a recessed front porch supported by four square columns shelters an elaborate front doorway, flanked by two one-story lateral wings. Clapboard siding covers the walls, which rest on a sandstone foundation under a metal gable roof. Inside, restoration has preserved original walnut woodwork and some colored glass windows. The house was built on the site of a large Indian mound, the highest point in town, which was graded for construction; the rear section went up first. Peris Sprague, a State Senator, acquired the property in 1828, and George Deaver later owned it. The house is regarded as one of Fredericktown's finest and best preserved early homes, and it sits beside the old Methodist Church.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Greek Revival","criteria":[],"status_note":"Interior restored; interior and exterior condition listed as excellent; used as a residence.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:53:12.567747-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_OH/79003875.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/79003875/3f04011362-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/79003875/3f04011362-1600.webp","licence":"Public domain","author":"Nyttend","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Sprague-Deaver_House.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Nyttend</a>, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Sprague-Deaver_House.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/71985570","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q138393048"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/ohio/knox-county/sprague-deaver-house-79003875/"}
