It was built during a period of rapid growth and expansion in the town. Little else is known of its history.","narrative":"Standing at the northwest corner of High Street and North Main Street in Fredericktown, this two-story house dates to about 1850 and is described as the town's finest example of early Gothic Revival architecture. It is a wood-frame building with flush vertical siding, a slate gable roof, a sandstone foundation and a cross-shaped plan. Its most distinctive feature is the delicate, drooping bargeboard trim at the front gable. The second-story front window has a label lintel and elaborate Gothic mullions, and the two main chimneys show elaborate brickwork. A central projecting bay window and the two side porches appear to be later additions. Much original woodwork survives inside. The house sits on a spacious lot with shade trees and shrubbery, on the northern edge of the commercial center, with a hill rising behind it. Little is documented about its history, but it was built while Fredericktown was growing rapidly. It remains a residence in good condition.","period_of_significance":"c. 1850","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Gothic Revival","criteria":[],"status_note":"Used as a residence; interior and exterior condition both reported as good.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:53:12.389098-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_OH/79003865.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/79003865/52ad87b028-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/79003865/52ad87b028-1600.webp","licence":"Public domain","author":"Nyttend","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Gothic_Revival_House,_Fredericktown.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Nyttend</a>, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Gothic_Revival_House,_Fredericktown.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/71985552","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q138391584"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/ohio/knox-county/gothic-revival-house-79003865/"}
