It was built after a disastrous fire that year destroyed the frame commercial buildings along this side of the street. The building rests on a sandstone foundation and has a flat composition roof, with wood and metal trim. The first floor has large plate glass windows separated by square iron piers that support the structure above, and an ornamental cornice divides the first and second floors. Upper windows are segmental arched with hood molding, and an elaborate bracketed cornice crowns the facade. It is regarded as a good and quite well-preserved example of Italianate architecture. The interior has been altered somewhat, though both interior and exterior are in good condition. The block remains in commercial use in a densely built part of downtown, with residences behind it, and has about 75 feet of street frontage.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Italianate","criteria":[],"status_note":"Condition rated good for interior and exterior; still in commercial use; interior has received some alterations.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:53:12.081769-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_OH/79003857.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/79003857/a8159f106a-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/79003857/a8159f106a-1600.webp","licence":"Public domain","author":"Nyttend","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Brick_Commercial_Block,_Fredericktown.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Nyttend</a>, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Brick_Commercial_Block,_Fredericktown.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/71985540","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q138391337"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/ohio/knox-county/brick-commercial-block-79003857/"}
