It is now at Apollo Drive and Country Club in Edna.","why_significant":"The nomination argues the church is a rare and excellent example of Texas Greek Revival architecture adapted to mid-19th-century frontier building conditions. It is also one of the last remaining structures from the once-thriving commercial town of Texana. Its relocation to Edna reflects how the railroad shifted settlement patterns in the 19th century.","narrative":"Built in 1859-60 in the Jackson County town of Texana, this small wood-frame church is a provincial interpretation of Greek Revival style, made with local materials and craftsmanship. It had a pedimented gable, pilasters, tall narrow windows and a louvered bell tower with a conical spire. Texana was a busy commercial center and county seat until the railroad of 1882 bypassed it by seven miles and the new town of Edna took its trade and residents. In 1884 the Presbyterian congregation moved the church to Edna, and in 1887 added a Gothic Revival apse. After the congregation built a larger church in 1908, the old building was sold and moved three blocks, then used for storage. Its siding, roof, doors, windows, tower and interior were lost or covered. By 1979 a restoration association had commissioned drawings to return it to its post-1887 appearance, with a move back onto church property planned. The building is valued as a rare surviving example of its style and a record of Texana's decline.","period_of_significance":"1859-60, 1887","architect_builder":"Unknown","architectural_style":"Greek Revival (Texas provincial interpretation), with 1887 Gothic Revival apse addition","criteria":[],"status_note":"Heavily altered by its use as storage after 1908; a restoration plan was prepared and the building was to be moved back onto church property in 1979.","vacant_flag":null,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:54:18.526325-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/52/9726/40972652/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_TX/79002982.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/79002982/fc4eeb4c1c-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/79002982/fc4eeb4c1c-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"25or6to4","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Texana_Presbyterian_Church,_Edna,_TX.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">25or6to4</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Texana_Presbyterian_Church,_Edna,_TX.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/40972652","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Texana_Presbyterian_Church","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7707327"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/texas/jackson-county/texana-presbyterian-church-79002982/"}
