It is also significant for remaining in the Wright family for over 130 years and as a reminder of the old Jonesville townsite and its plantation economy.","narrative":"Locust Grove is a two-story frame plantation house near Jonesville in Harrison County, Texas. Alpheus Wright, who moved from Kentucky in 1847, had it built between 1847 and 1849 on land bought from a wealthy neighbor. The house faces north on a brick pier foundation, with a two-story inset gallery of six square wood columns, double-door entrances with transoms and sidelights, and exterior brick chimneys. A rear courtyard was enclosed in 1908, and a kitchen was joined to the main house at that time. A garage and asbestos siding on the sides and rear were added in 1952, though the front keeps its original detailing. A slave cabin, log cabin and barn survive on about eight acres, the last two in deteriorated condition. The plantation prospered in the 1850s but declined after the Civil War. Descendants of Wright have owned the house continuously. It is listed as a Texas example of Greek Revival design and as a reminder of the old Jonesville townsite, which moved when the railroad arrived in 1868.","period_of_significance":"1800-1899 (specific dates 1847-1849)","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Greek Revival","criteria":[],"status_note":"Occupied private residence in good condition and altered; the surviving outbuildings are described as deteriorated.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:54:19.442334-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/95/9724/40972495/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_TX/79002969.pdf"},"photo":null,"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/40972495","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q110002221"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/texas/harrison-county/locust-grove-79002969/"}
