It is the only house on the avenue showing the influence of medieval building forms. It was also the home of Sterling Myer, a founder and first president of the Courtlandt Improvement Company.","narrative":"Built in 1910 at 4 Courtlandt Place in Houston, this two-and-a-half story Tudor Revival house was designed by the architectural firm Sanguinet & Staats. It has a steep double-pitched roof with two half-timbered gables facing the street, a brick first floor, a half-timbered second floor, a wooden front gallery on brick piers, and a western porte cochere. A two-story frame garage stands behind. The house is one of 18 residences along a tree-lined, divided boulevard established as an exclusive neighborhood in 1906 and protected by restrictive covenants. It was the second house built there and is the only one on the avenue showing medieval-inspired design. Its first owner, attorney Sterling Myer, helped found the Courtlandt Improvement Company, which developed the subdivision, and served as its first president. Sanguinet & Staats designed the first four houses on the street and other Houston landmarks.","period_of_significance":"1900- (specific date 1910)","architect_builder":"Sanguinet & Staats","architectural_style":"Tudor Revival","criteria":[],"status_note":"Occupied private residence; the form notes a second-floor room added to the east sunroom in recent years.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:54:19.319242-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/38/9723/40972338/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_TX/79002964.pdf"},"photo":null,"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/40972338","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q110000998"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/texas/harris-county/myer-sterling-house-79002964/"}
