It is a one-story, rectangular building with brick bearing walls, a coursed fieldstone foundation, a basement and a gabled roof with new shingles. The roof has been replaced with a broad overhang on the south side, finished with a wood gable end. The original structure keeps a four-over-four double-hung window on the east side, and the south doorway is deeply recessed with a paneled embrasure and a plain stone lintel. Samuel Davis built it for his son Anson after Anson married. Anson was a Revolutionary War veteran and an early settler of the township. The springhouse and the nearby house are all that remain of a once extensive farmstead. The building is set well back from the road, with a lawn and circular drive around the house. It is recorded as unused but in good condition.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"Samuel Davis (builder, for his son Anson Davis)","architectural_style":null,"criteria":[],"status_note":"Listed as unused; interior and exterior condition both recorded as good.","vacant_flag":true,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:53:13.042616-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_OH/79002907.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/79002907/f83c387021-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/79002907/f83c387021-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Skorry","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Anson_Davis_House.JPG\" rel=\"noopener\">Skorry</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Anson_Davis_House.JPG"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/71985129","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anson_Davis_House_and_Springhouse","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q104833792"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/ohio/franklin-county/davis-anson-springhouse-79002907/"}
