The sheet lists the theme as architecture.","narrative":"This farmhouse on Shier-Rings Road in Amlin, Washington Township, Franklin County, dates to about 1900. It was built as a frame house with lapped siding, a gable roof and a rectangular plan, and it began as a one-and-a-half-story, L-shaped building with gable roofs. The roof was later extended and altered to make two full stories. A front porch is shaped to fit the house and is supported by wood posts, scroll brackets and cutout lattice work. A side porch and a decorative hatch door to the cellar also survive, and the windows are one-over-one. The property is a well-kept farm complex that has remained in the same family for more than 100 years. The present house replaced an older farmhouse, and the frame of that first house is reportedly reused in one of the machine barns. Outbuildings include a slat-sided granary, an outhouse, a chicken house and three barns. Interior condition was rated excellent and exterior good.","period_of_significance":"ca. 1900","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":null,"criteria":[],"status_note":"Used as a residence; interior condition rated excellent and exterior good.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:53:12.462019-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_OH/79002865.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/79002865/b60b2771be-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/79002865/b60b2771be-1600.webp","licence":"Public domain","author":"Nyttend","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Carl_H._Shier_House.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Nyttend</a>, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Carl_H._Shier_House.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/71985162","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carl_H._Shier_Farm","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q54958177"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/ohio/franklin-county/shier-carl-h-house-79002865/"}
